An information gap gives two learners different details so that each has a reason to ask the other questions. The task works best when learners cannot simply read their partner’s card.
Prepare the teacher page and learner pages separately
Keep the lesson plan and answers with the teacher. Give each learner only their role card and the worksheet. In LessonLoop, each lesson uses three PDF pages: teacher plan, role cards and learner worksheet. Print the last two pages of each group for learners.
Begin with the language needed for the task
Use about five minutes to establish the setting and rehearse a few useful requests and confirmation phrases. Check that learners can say the times and quantities used in the activity. The pack is intended for adults who can already make short requests and tell time; adapt the pace to the actual group.
Keep the partner information separate
Give the pair a clear outcome: agree a delivery time, confirm an appointment change or produce a shift handover. Ask learners to obtain missing information through conversation. If they show each other the cards immediately, the reason to ask questions disappears.
Allow a second attempt
After the first exchange, ask learners which detail was hardest to confirm. Give a short language correction, then run another pair of role cards or swap roles. This can help learners reuse the same phrases with a different information problem.
Finish with a short review
Use the learner questions to check the understood result and compare with the teacher keys. Have learners say one clarification phrase they can use again. Use fictional details throughout. The materials support practical speaking work; no formal level certification or guaranteed learning outcome is claimed.
